Europa: Milan thump Austria Vienna; Villarreal, Marseille win; Everton lose AC Milan’s Andre Silva celebrated a hat-trick as the Italian giants crushed their hosts, Austria Vienna 5-1 in matchday 1 of the Europa League on Thursday night. Turkey international Calhanoglu opened the scoring on 7 minutes before Silva netted two goals in ten minutes to put the Rossoneri 3-0 up at halftime. The hosts then fought back early after the break, as defender Alexandar Borkovic powerfully headed in from a corner for Vienna, before Silva’s third for the night and Suso’s 63rd-minute goal completed the 5-1 victory for Milan. The Rossoneri are unbeaten in the competition this season while Austria Vienna are without a win at home in their last six UEFA Europa games. French side, Marseille beat Atiker Konyaspor 1-0 in Group I as Portugal’s Vitoria Guimaraes drew 1-1 FC Austrian champions, Red Bull Salzburg. Elsewhere, Premier League side, Everton produced a dreadful performance as they lost 3-0 against Atalanta in Italy. French side Olympique Lyon were held 1-1 in Cyprus by Apollon Limassol in the other Group E game.
