EKITI 2018: APC youths woo PDP’s Olujimi, Adeyeye, with party gov ticket

EKITI 2018: APC youths woo PDP's Olujimi, Adeyeye, with party gov ticketYouths in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ekiti State chapter have called on two chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senator Biodun Olujimi and Dayo Adeyeye to defect to APC to pursue their governorship ambition.
The youths under the aegis of Ekiti APC Youths Congress (EAYC) said they were in support of the alleged call by the deputy national chairman (South) of the APC, Chief Segun Oni, that both Adeyeye and Olujimi should join APC to realize their governorship ambitions.
Adeyeye, who is the national publicity secretary of the Ahmed Markafi-led National Working Committee of the PDP, and a senator of the party, Olujimi, the deputy Minority Whip of the Senate are both aspiring for the state governorship position under the PDP.
But following Governor Ayodele Fayose’s recent endorsement of his deputy, Prof Kolapo Olusola, along with stakeholders of the party in the state, there have been calls by some APC supporters that the duo should defect to another party to chase their aspirations.
The youths as part of those in support of the demands said in a statement made available to Ripples Nigeria and jointly signed by Tope Ogunkuade and Comrade Tunji Adeleye, Convener and Secretary of the group respectively rejected members of the APC already seeking for the ticket in preference to the PDP duo.
The statement read in part, “APC is in need of quality people in the Southern Senatorial district to fly its flag in the 2018 election.”
The youths said they are resolute in their opposition to the governorship aspiration of Segun Oni, Dr Kayode Fayemi, Senator Babafemi Ojudu and others from the North and Central senatorial districts, maintaining that “it was the turn of the South to produce the governor of the state.
“It was obvious that the APC does not have quality people in the South senatorial district that can compete with the deputy governor, Prof Kolapo Olusola, who has been endorsed as the PDP candidate,” the youths said.
They therfore explained that “it was necessary for the likes of Adeyeye and Olujimi to be wooed into the APC as suggested by Segun Oni, so that either of them can be presented as the party candidate.”
The APC youths further noted that since the PDP has picked its candidate from the South, APC must also pick its candidate from the same zone and since there “appears not to be strong politician from the South in our party, there is nothing wrong in bringing either Olujimi or Adeyeye, just as the PDP wooed Senator Ademola Adeleke from the APC and handed him the party’s ticket.”
