ANAMBRA 2017: PDP fixes date to hear primary election complaints

The National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic (PDP) has fixed Tuesday September 12, to hear appeals arising from the party’s August 28 governorship primary election in Anambra State.

The hearing, according to a statement signed and released by Chinwe Nnorom, head, publicity division, for the national publicity secretary of the party, will hold at 11am at the PDP national secretariat, Wadata Plaze, Wuse Abuja.

“No aspirant to the NCC Appeal Panel is allowed to come with any crowd. Non compliance with this directive will be viewed seriously by the party,” the statement said.

A former Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Mr Oseloka Obaze, emerged winner of the party primary election for the November 18 governorship poll in the state.

He garnered 672 votes to defeat his closest rival, Dr Alex Obiogbolu, who scored 190 and Dr Ifeanyi Uba, the CEO of Capital Oil, who only managed to get 94 votes.

Uba had cried foul as soon as the result was announced and alleged that there were irregularities in the delegates for the primary election.

Also, a former minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah and two other aspirants, Linda Ikpeazu and John Emeka had before the commencement of accreditation of delegates withdrawn from the exercise.

Some of them had also cited irregularities in the party’s delegates’ list as part of the reasons they withdrew from the race.

The party recently held a reconciliatory meeting which was attended by Obaze, Obiogbolu and Uba in efforts to clam frayed nerves over the outcome of the governorship primary.

The meeting which held behind closed doors was learnt to have addressed some of the contending issues arising from the disputed election.

Meanwhile, Ubah is already in court to challenge the conduct and outcome of the primary.
