ANAMBRA GUBER: Chidoka’s chances threatened as Biafra group withdraws backing

The hope of a former minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka of emerging governor of Anambra state come November has come under threat, as the Movement of Biafrans in Nigeria (MOBIN) group has withdrawn its backing for him.

Osita, who was also at one time the Corps Marshall of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) had emerged the candidate of the United Progressive Party (UPP) for the governorship election in the state.

But MOBIN, a pro-Biafra group alleged that Chidoka had gone back on an agreement reached with them, even after they facilitated his emergence as candidate of the UPP, hence their withdrawal of support for him.

The group in a statement on Tuesday signed by its Director General, Rita Anigbogu, said, “The Movement of Biafrans in Nigeria wishes to inform the general public that it has withdrawn its support for the United Progressive Party.

“Earlier this year, the UPP presented itself as the ideal political platform where Biafrans could get good governance in our struggle for freedom. On this premise, MOBIN had worked assiduously, believing that it was building a formidable haven in the interest of Biafrans.

“This was based on three cardinal principles which Biafrans at this juncture cannot afford to sacrifice: justice, equity and truth.”

It continued, that “MOBIN believes that aside from the fact that the very first political experiment (the governorship primary) by the party was fraught with fraud and irregularities, the UPP has not demonstrated that it’s an ideal party for the Biafran people.”

The group said it was having consultations and would come up with a better political alternative for the Anambra governorship election.

Recall that Chidoka, probably in efforts to garner support from pro-Biafra supporters and clubs, had recently made himself available, and personally drove the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu when he was released from Kuje Prison.
